Queen’s Platinum Jubilee picnic, a huge success!!

The Landlady of the Holden Arms Kim Morley had kindly offered use of the pub car park for our Picnic but the rain had other ideas. Not to be deterred, everyone celebrated in the pub. There was food, a DJ, face painting, a crafting corner and singers as well as traditional picnic boxes provided.

Many local people and businesses donated prizes for our fundraising raffle.

Volunteers Joanne Waddington, Lisa Postins and Lee Mitchell of our Community Liaison Sub- Committee did much of the organizing for this event.

Jo also called in her Mum and her friend to run the Children’s Crafting Corner where they were colouring corgies and making paper crowns. So, a great big thank you to Norma Waddington and Linda Smithies for offering their time to help the children enjoy their time.

Our raffle raised a grand total of £420 which will be used for the benefit of the community and environmental projects such as tree planting and path improvements.

Grane Residents Association has been established since the 1990s under the guidance of Michael Murray MBE and his wife Margaret Murray.

Recently, the baton has been handed over to a new generation of local volunteers from Helmshore, Haslingden and Grane.  The Jubilee Celebration was the first event organised by the new volunteers. There were multi-generational families enjoying the event and we saw families walking over from Haslingden, Helmshore and Grane which is great to see. It was truly wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves - especially after the events of the last couple of years. The event had a wonderful community atmosphere and everyone complimented GRASS for the happy event. Kim and her staff worked tremendously hard to make the event a success.

GRASS would like to thank Councillor Samara Barnes for encouraging us to find out about local grants available for Jubilee Celebrations from RBC.

We would also like to thank Jake Berry MP for dropping in to support our event.

Thanks also to Cllr Alan Woods and Cllr Julie Adshead for their continued support.

Also, thank you to Kathy Fishwick of Rossendale Civic Trust for all her helpful suggestions and information.

GRASS would like to thank all the local businesses and volunteers who generously donated raffle prizes and their time to make this event a success.

If anyone would like to find out more about GRASS and the work we do within the local area especially in monitoring planning applications on greenfields, please take a look at our FB page Grane Residents Association and ask about our monthly meetings.

GRASS – our next meeting is on Wednesday 6th July 2022 at 7pm at the Holden Arms, Haslingden, opposite Haslingden Cemetery. Everyone is Welcome.

This will be an important meeting as we will be discussing what types of things GRASS will be supporting and how we will do our fundraising over the next 12 – 24 months.   Please come along and share your ideas with the GRASS volunteers.
