GRASS AGM 2022

The GRASS AGM was a wonderful gathering. We held the meeting at Sunnybank Social Club on Helmshore Road, Helmshore. There were 16 members in attendance and 15 apologies - mostly due to people being on holiday or feeling under the weather. We had a very constructive meeting.

Our Chairman of many years, Michael Murray MBE, stepped down from the Chair role into the Vice Chair role. He was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation and a commemorative gardening tool set by our new Chair, Andrew Neil Taylor.

Two new Volunteer Officers were elected being Liz Baker who steps into the role of Assistant Secretary and Andrew James Rodbourne who is taking on the role of Assistant Treasurer.

Officers who are continuing to serve the GRASS community are

Margaret Murray as Secretary and Louise Muskett as Treasurer.

Councillor Julie Adshead commented that many residents’ groups give up campaigning once Planning Permissions have been given to Developers. She said it is good to see that GRASS is continuing to monitor the TW Development Site as well as expanding our Community Action interests for residents around Grane, Helmshore and Haslingden - such as organising celebration fundraisers over the Queen’s Jubilee Weekend and looking at how we can improve our environment over the next few years with practical beautification projects such as planting trees and maintaining pathways.

Councillor Alan Woods has been looking into the progress of the S106 Ageeement which is an agreement entered into between the Local Authority and TW Developer under section 106 of the Town & Planning Act 1990. This is a legal agreement that the Developer will pay certain amounts of monies into the local community for things such as the anticipated increase in school places and road alterations required when houses are built. This money was expected to be received around Spring 2022 but detailed legal negotiations have not yet been finalised as yet to the best of our understanding.

We would like to thank Relish, also on Helmshore Road, who did an absolutely fantastic job catering for our buffet which we thoroughly enjoyed after the business of the AGM was completed.

We would like to thank everyone who so generously donated Raffle Prizes for our fundraising and also to individual members of our Strategy Team who so kindly donated to get the ball rolling on our 2022 Fundraising. We raised £132 at this event.

Our next meeting will take place on Wednesday 11th May gathering at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start at the Holden Arms. You will be made to feel very Welcome! Thanks for your support!
